I thought with these colours it looked a bit mysterious and eerie...a slight hint of dark mythological stories...:)

Nice shot - definitely surreal. I really like the colors and the focus definitely makes this photo interesing to look at. The only suggestion I have is to maybe crop out some of the dead space on the right, it seems to detract from my focus on the flower (maybe a square crop?). Anyway nice work!

I might crop it out at some point, but I'm trying to use minimum after-effects.

Eh I never thought of cropping to be an after-effect, simply framing your subject in an appropriate way for the best composition - cameras don't give you much choice, just one size and shape! I wouldn't think anything less of this shot if it was cropped!

Interesting depth of field, definite feel of surrealism. The contrast between the background and the flower is interesting though, and so is the point of focus seemingly being on the tip of the petal.

Yep, that was the point. The usual type of picture is when the focus is inside the flower, or on the whole flower, so I thought I'd try sth else, even if it doesn't work, but it seems to be OK :)
